Research & innovation

Aquatera Atlántico actively participates in research, development, and innovation (R&D&I) initiatives through a range of European technological research projects. In this field, the company collaborates with governments, academic institutions, blue economy sectors, and local communities to share, disseminate, and apply scientific knowledge related to the marine environment.

Aquatera Atlántico also uses software and hardware developed by the Aquatera Group to provide new and effective ways of presenting complex technical information to general audiences, public administrations, and regulatory bodies. In addition, the company develops innovative methods to reduce the cost of energy throughout its lifecycle, optimising the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) through the integration of environmental and social variables. It also applies Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies to measure the real impact of projects beyond traditional technical indicators, alongside new engineering designs applied to the renewable energy sector. Through this work, Aquatera Atlántico offers:

Models and descriptive tools

Development of models and tools for marine environment characterisation, integrating environmental and social variables into project life cycle assessment and Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) analysis

Engineering designs

Innovative engineering designs focused on lifecycle cost optimisation, integrating circular economy principles into material selection and use

Analysis techniques

Development of methodologies to assess and manage the social impact of emerging sectors, integrating communities as active participants in the process

The company works according to the ABCG (Academic, Business, Community and Government) partnership model and is committed to the collaboration of these 4 components as essential elements for the effective development of emerging industries and the development of sustainable and renewable energy solutions. The areas in which we develop R&D activities are mainly in the blue energy, climate change and hydrogen sectors.
